We always find similarities between quality property and luxury cars. We compare an excellent dwelling to top cars such as Maserati or Mercedes Benz S-class, for instance. People buy the look and feel of those cars, but they are also looking for safety; a strong car shield, structure and safe drive.
I was once involved in an accident during a busy traffic jam. I noticed that the car behind me dangerously attempted to move to the right lane. It was a matter of seconds. I unconsciously pulled the handbrakes of my Mercedes Benz and pressed the brake pedal. A third car came out of nowhere at high speed and bumped into the car behind. From the impact the third car rolled over and into the ditch on the right side. The car behind me smashed and spun around, hitting the back of my vehicle. The car then collided with the concrete divider on the left— a total loss. Fortunate enough, there weren’t any severe injuries.
We all got out of our cars to check the damage. The third car was upside down, total loss; the car body behind was crushed. I looked back at my own car and saw a tiny scratch near the number plate. It could be worse, but when I drive those vehicles, I feel more confident and stable on the road and more secure.
Car safety is similar to property safety. People keen to buy luxury homes, look for properties with stunning finishes and design, rather than houses or buildings of quality. In most cases, it is only a costume, and we pay a heavy price for it. I can compare it to a car which looks like a Maserati, with the chassis of a Subaru 360.
We probably won’t notice if the chassis is poor quality, however we would face the consequences on the road.
When building properties, we want to make sure the structure of the house or the building is of the highest quality too.
For example, the Quad-Lock system’s fire-rating means that in case of a severe bush fire, it is possible to shelter inside the home, as it will remain completely intact.
Proper insulation means temperature control and noise reduction. A quality building system is able to keep a home cool in summer and warm in winter, with minimal air conditioning or heating required. An insulated home is able to remain quiet inside regardless of external activity – whether the property sits on a busy road or an airplane route, or if your neighbours decide to renovate, a properly insulated home will keep outside noise outside. The long term energy-saving benefits of ICF systems are unparalleled, significantly reducing maintenance and electricity bills.
A quality building system will have solid walls that won’t crack after completion. This impacts both a home’s look and safety. This often cannot be seen with the naked eye, nor in marketing materials for properties. Many new estates, high-rises or any luxury homes are only desirable on the surface, without any solid foundations to increase the standard of living. Some examples are the falling buildings in Mascot and at the Olympic Park – the Opal Tower. These structures did not have quality foundations to prevent cracks and collapses, no strength or longevity.
We believe that the right property and a quality home should come with an outstanding structure that offers all the benefits of liveability – and with designs and finishes customised to owner-occupier demand or the property developer’s vision.
